“I am honored to celebrate the announcement of Dr. Laura Tetri as the inaugural recipient of the SPA-FAER Mentored Research Training Grant. This partnership between SPA and FAER reflects our shared commitment to supporting the next generation of clinician-scientists who will lead the way in advancing pediatric anesthesiology. Dr. Tetri’s innovative research on pediatric perioperative fasting and mitochondrial function embodies the spirit of this initiative—pioneering science with the potential to meaningfully improve the perioperative care of children. We look forward to the discoveries this support will enable and to continuing our investment in future leaders in our field.” – Peggy P. McNaull MD, SPA President
SPA-FAER Mentored Research Training Grants aim to help anesthesiologists develop the skills and preliminary data they need to become independent investigators in the field of pediatric anesthesiology advancing the health and well-being of children. These grants are eligible to anesthesiologist faculty members who are within 10 years of their first faculty appointment and comprise $250,000 in funding over two years.
The Society for Pediatric Anesthesia (SPA) has teamed with FAER to offer a co-sponsored SPA-FAER Mentored Research Training Grant (MRTG). This grant is available as part of FAER’s Spring 2025 Grant Cycle, and seeks to develop the next generation of pediatric anesthesiology investigators.
The SPA-FAER Mentored Research Training Grant will provide $250,000 in funding over a two-year period to develop the next generation of pediatric anesthesiology investigators who will contribute to advancing the health and well-being of children.
SPA and FAER will award two SPA-FAER Mentored Research Training Grants to the sponsoring institution of a highly promising new pediatric anesthesiology scientist, the first as part of FAER’s Spring 2025 Grant Cycle, and the second in 2027. The grant aims to help anesthesiologists develop the skills and preliminary data they need to become independent investigators in the area of pediatric anesthesiology.
Prior to submitting a full application, this funding mechanism requires the submission of a Letter of Intent (LOI), after which selected investigators will be invited to submit a full application. LOI submissions for the SPA-FAER MRTG are open through January 15, 2025. Additional details regarding application requirements and process, as well as links to submit LOIs, are available for download on the dedicated SPA-FAER MRTG webpage.
