The Anesthesia for Children with Mitochondrial Disease Special Interest Group (SPA-ACMD SIG), through SPA, will provide a platform for pediatric anesthesiologists, who share an interest in the care of such high-risk children, to exchange ideas and begin to address the gaps in our knowledge.  Our short-term plan is to establish a central database. Such a repository will allow the international Pediatric Anesthesia community to collect and deposit data regarding patient demographics, anesthetic management, and outcomes.  Our long-term goal is to report our findings to the field and to ultimately determine “best” and “safest practice” regarding the anesthetic care of children with inherited mitochondrial disease.
