The Pediatric Regional Anesthesia Network is a collaborative group of institutions and investigators studying the practice, risks and incidence of complications in pediatric regional anesthesia. PRAN was founded in 2007 to study regional anesthetics in infants and children. Starting with 6 pilot sites, we have grown to 21 centers and have prospectively accrued data on over 100,000 pediatric regional blocks. Our goal is to create a large multi-center network of departments interested in learning more about the practice, risks and complications of regional anesthesia in children, and committed to the accurate acquisition of data. PRAN will serve as both a data repository for research and quality improvement, and as a framework for organizing future large-scale multi-center studies. The database also provides benchmarking data to individual departments so they may compare their practices with their peers across North America and around the world.
