The SPA-DEI committee is launching a brand new DEI Mentoring Program. We are currently accepting applications for mentors (attendings) and mentees (medical students, anesthesiology residents, and pediatric anesthesiology fellows) with plans to expand in the future. Since the recent ASA meeting, we have had 32 mentees apply already!

We are especially searching for diverse mentors that will guide these eager mentees. This is a wonderful opportunity for networking and community building amongst diverse anesthesiologists and trainees! This program will also provide 2 DEI Mentoring scholarships to selected mentees to cover their costs to attend the SPA/AAP Annual meeting. We will hold a virtual primer session for mentors to provide support and tips for mentorship.

Applications to the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research’s (FAER) Spring 2024 Grant Cycle are open December 1, 2023, through February 15, 2024! Available grants include the Mentored Research Training Grant (two years, $250,000), Research in Education Grant (two years, $100,000), and Research Fellowship Grant (one year, $75,000). Letter of Intent Submissions for the APSF-FAER Mentored Research Training Grant (MRTG) are open December 1, 2023, through January 1, 2024! Co-sponsored by the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation (APSF) and Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER), this two-year, $300,000 award helps anesthesiologists develop the skills and preliminary data they need to become independent investigators in the field of anesthesia patient safety. Eligible to anesthesiologist faculty members who are within 10 years of their first faculty appointment, learn more on FAER’s website!
