SPA Young Investigator Research Grant Review Committee

The Society for Pediatric Anesthesia (SPA) invites applications from qualified individuals to serve on the SPA Grant Review Committee. There are three open positions on the committee.
The SPA Young Investigator Research Grants support innovative research in pediatric anesthesiology, including clinical and basic science studies, education research, and quality/safety improvement initiatives.
Committee Member Responsibilities
Grant Review Committee members will:
- Review and score both initial and full proposals.
- Evaluate proposals using a structured scoring rubric across defined domains (e.g., significance, innovation, methodology, investigator potential, mentorship, environment).
- Participate in virtual discussion sessions.
- Maintain confidentiality and disclose conflicts of interest per SPA policy.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the Grant Review Committee, individuals must:
- Be a current SPA member in good standing.
- Hold an MD or DO with board certification or eligibility in anesthesiology (ABA or Canadian FRCPC).
- Have demonstrated experience in research, peer review, and/or mentorship in academic settings.
- Be actively practicing pediatric anesthesiology or involved in related academic research.
- Hold a faculty appointment at an academic or research institution in the U.S. or Canada.
Preferred Qualifications
Applicants with one or more of the following are especially encouraged to apply:
- Previous grant review experience with NIH, foundations, or institutional review panels.
- History of research funding, particularly in pediatric anesthesiology or related disciplines.
- Record of mentorship of trainees or junior investigators in academic medicine.
