Novel Treatment ideas for hemorrhagic shock: What the future holds
Myron Yaster MD and Justin L. Lockman MD, MSEd

Original article
Carmen Hinojosa-Laborde, Ian L Hudson, Evan Ross, Lusha Xiang, Kathy L Ryan. Pathophysiology of Hemorrhage as It Relates to the Warfighter. Physiology (Bethesda).  2022 May 1;37(3):141-153. PMID: 35001653

In major trauma, the availability of blood may be limited.  This article reviews the physiology of major blood loss and highlights new pharmacological adjuncts that may improve oxygen delivery and utilization, stabilize mitochondrial function, and/or prevent regulated cell death.

Reader response

Amy Vinson MD comments on the interplay of burnout, professionalism and work-life balance in response to Dr. Jeff Feldman’s reader response on the role of professionalism in burnout.  Justin Lockman MD MSEd provided a link to a free resource from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for airway learners and rotators.  Randy Clark MD, president of the ASA, provided an article on the origins of the ASA’s official seal which despite my comments in a previous PAAD, continues to have the word vigilance above the lighthouse.  Tim Martin MD comments on OR staffing ratios.

Error traps in acute pediatric pain management: Part 1 and Part 2
Myron Yaster MD and Lynne Maxwell MD

Original article
Tricia M Vecchione, Rita Agarwal, Constance L Monitto.  Error traps in acute pain management in children. Paediatr Anaesth. 2022 Sep;32(9):982-992. PMID: 35751474

Another in a series of articles published in the Journal Pediatric Anesthesia on “error traps” in anesthesia.
